Elephant Eye

It's a shame that the elephant wasn't looking into the camera - it's always nice to have that connection - but that's not your fault.
I think the composition could be better - the eye is too central in the frame. I'd suggest cropping a little from the right-hand side and possibly from the bottom too, to put the rule of thirds into effect. Plus most of the interesting skin texture is towards the top left corner, so it would be good to make that more prominent in the frame.

Having said that, I don't think this is a bad shot. You've captured some really great texture in the skin, which is always a great thing to focus on with elephants. I think you could increase the contrast a little to make the wrinkles stand out more, though.
I like that you've zoomed in and focussed on one small part of the elephant. It makes it feel more personal than if you'd just shot the entire animal.
